Queen of the Night

I just spent some time photographing this beauty, which blooms for only one night. It’s the only flower I got this year, after neglecting the poor plant over last winter as it was in a back room where I forgot about it. It survived looking hardly worse for it.

This is one of my favorite flowers: very showy, large, and nicely scented, though that gets a bit heady after I’ve been closely photographing it for half an hour. So you can enjoy it from afar. It’s around 19 cm across, or 7.5″.

This is Epiphyllum oxypetalum:

Sorry I haven’t been around; I needed a break. It’s going to continue, but I thought I’d drop by with these treats for Halloween. I’ll figure out if and in what form this blog might continue…

You saw this moth in its previous incarnation on Day 30, wrapped in plastic, and a close-up of its posterior in yesterday’s post.

Electric Joker Kale

Electric Joker Kale

SOC = Straight Out of the Camera, no manipulation. The purple one was delicious; yellow is next.
The kale had too much yellow in the image, so I did mess with that one. I like it better this way. 😉

Two views of the same thing – that’s the cocoon of the caterpillar that wrapped itself in the plastic.
